2016 Application Form-SBC's People's Choice Award: Sustainable Restaurant 

Welcome to SBC's People's Choice Award: Sustainable Restaurant entry page. This is your opportunity to receive recognition and publicity for your sustainable product or service. This is also your opportunity to enter the premiere Southern California Sustainable Business Award Competition. These are the 2016 Award Recipient Prizes! Please fill out the below application form for online submitting along with providing application fee in order to be considered as a candidate for SBC's People's Choice Award: Sustainable Restaurant. The fee for all applications is $60 and the application deadline is April 8, 2016. 

SBC's People’s Choice Award: Sustainable Restaurant
The People's Choice Award category for a sustainable restaurant will be awarded to a Southern California restaurant voted for by the attendees of the SBC Awards ceremony for their sustainable business practices.

Who is eligible to be a candidate for SBC’s People’s Choice Award: Sustainable Restaurants Award?
Any restaurant in Southern California or with headquarters in Southern California that is implementing sustainable practices. The individual filling out the application is required to own and operate or bear principal responsibility for operating a restaurant in Southern California that is implementing sustainable business practices.

How do you apply for SBC’s People’s Choice Award: Sustainable Restaurant Award submitted?
Interested restaurant owners and operators submit their application by filling out the Application-Sustainable Restaurants Award Form below.

What is the deadline for submitting applications for SBC’s People’s Choice Award: Sustainable Restaurant?
Applications must be submitted no later than on April 8, 2016 11:59 p.m. PST.

What must the application include for SBC’s People’s Choice Award: Category: Sustainable Restaurant?
1) The filled out Restaurant Application Form.
2) Paid online as part of the Application Form for $60 for the processing fee.
3) All restaurant applicants must commit to provide a small sample appetizer that does not need to be heated for 175 people for a sustainable cuisine tasting at the Fifth Annual SBC’s Industry Achievement Awards on April 19th with set-up from 4:00 p.m.-5:45 p.m. and commit to serve the appetizer from 6:00 p.m.-7:45 p.m. at the Lexus Showroom located at 1501 Santa Monica Blvd., Santa Monica, CA 90404. 

What is the judging selection process and criteria for the selecting the recipient of SBC’s People’s Choice Award: Sustainable Restaurant?
 
Criteria and Judging Process:
Round 1: The Restaurant receives an energy efficient solutions and strategy session with an industry expert.

A professional GRI certified sustainability expert will schedule an appointment to come by and give the complimentary energy efficient solutions and strategy educational session on the following categories.

I.     Waste Management
II.    Product Purchasing
III.   Food Sourcing
IV.   Energy & Water Use
V.    Community Outreach

A point total will be provided based on these categories. All candidates will advance to round 2.

Round 2: The People’s Choice Score
Candidates will provide a small sample appetizer that does not need to be heated for 175 people for a sustainable cuisine tasting. Candidates will have a table to display their appetizer sample and marketing materials to attendees of the Fifth Annual SBC Industry Achievement Awards. Candidates will also have on their table the point total from round 1 displayed so that attendees can see their Sustainability Score and a brief summary of the restaurant's sustainability highlights. Every attendee other than competing candidiates for this award or the supervising restaurant judge will have a ballot to vote for one restaurant.

The People’s Choice ballot voting will take place on April 19th at the Fifth Annual SBC Industry Achievement Awards between 6:00 p.m.-7:45 p.m. The ballots will be tallied by the supervising restaurant judge and added to the Round 1 scores. A third party independent accounting agency will verify and certify the restaurant with the highest score results. That restaurant will be the recipient of the 2016 SBC's People’s Choice Award: Sustainable Restaurant and announced from the stage during the Fourth Annual SBC Industry Awards Reception.
