Cecily Jackson-Zapata concentrates her law practice in the areas of tax-exempt organizations, social enterprises and small business corporate, tax and transactional law. Her expertise includes nonprofit, hybrid entity, and small business formation, Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) financing documents, nonprofit mergers, nonprofit joint ventures, formation of for-profit subsidiaries of nonprofit organizations, corporate dissolutions, contracts, leases and licenses. After spending four years in the Tax Departments at Latham & Watkins LLP in Los Angeles and Miller & Chevalier in Washington, DC, Ms. Jackson-Zapata dedicated her career to serving those in need. In 2001 Ms. Jackson-Zapata joined Public Counsel’s Community Development Project, where she served as Senior Staff Attorney until 2007. From 2007 to 2010 Ms. Jackson-Zapata was the Program Director for CARAT, where she gained expertise in nonprofit capacity building and small business development, including expertise in deploying broadband and Internet technologies in nonprofit organizations and small businesses. In 2010 Ms. Jackson-Zapata established her independent law practice and in April 2012 she formed Sustainable Law Group, P.C. with Becki Kammerling, Esq.

Ms. Jackson-Zapata serves as Vice Chair for The State Bar of California Taxation Section – Tax-Exempt Organizations Committee. She is a Member of the Union Bank Community Advisory Board, Chair of the Social Enterprise Alliance Los Angeles Chapter, a Director of Phase One – The Road to Curing Cancer, and a Member of Valley Economic Development Center’s Microloan Committee. Ms. Jackson-Zapata received her B.A. in Political Science cum laude from the University of Southern California in 1994. She graduated with a J.D. from Stanford University Law School in 1997.
